Workshops with Visiting Coach Mandy Hackman
We’re thrilled to be bringing Mandy Hackman to C3 for two weekends of workshops in January! Join her for a two-day solo act building workshop, a duo hoop workshop, and a fabric choreography workshop! Read about the workshops and register below!
Rethinking the Duo: Partner Hoop Beyond the Basics
6:30-8:30pm on Friday 1/4
Students will explore traditional partner shapes on the lyra and then will bust out into the unknown, working with strategies from other partner disciplines such as acro, swing, and contact improvisation to find new shapes and transitions on the hoop. This is an intermediate to advanced workshop. Students with a year of lyra and/or aerial partner experience are welcome. No partner necessary.
Making, Unmaking, Remaking: Solo Act Refinement
6-9pm on Friday 1/11
4-6pm on Saturday 1/12
Calling all aerialists with a solo in the works—this is a two-day workshop for you! Bring a phrase of movement or a not-quite-finished piece—we will turn it over, look at it from other angles, scrub up its edges, and send it out ready to take over the world. This workshop is intended for advanced aerialists who are ready to show their work for the first time, or aerial performers who are working on a new concept.
Mandy Hackman is an aerialist, contemporary dancer, and collaborative performance artist. She has performed and taught aerial arts, contemporary dance, and composition nationally and internationally with ground and air companies including Frequent Flyers, Control Group Productions, Rainbow Militia, Upsidown Productions, Sinecdoche Dance, Mike Kelley, and others. She is currently on-staff coaching aerial technique with Frequent Flyers of Colorado, where she coaches beginners up through through students in their Professional Training Program with a passion for anatomical efficiency and finding windows to individual expression. She is also a certified Personal Trainer and a professor of functional anatomy for movement artists at MSU Denver.
Periodically C3 will host adult aerial, adult ground acrobatics, and mixed youth circus taster classes at our studio in Jamaica Plain. If you want to try out some circus but are unsure if you can commit to a full session of weekly classes this is the perfect time to come try it all at a discounted rate!
