A Partnership with Circus Up!

Our vision is to create an after-school social circus program where Boston youth can spend time learning circus, building community, and doing homework in a safe space. We are excited to announce that the Commonwealth Circus Center will be partnering with local social circus organization Circus Up to help make this dream a reality in the Greater Boston Area!

Founded in 2014, Circus Up uses circus arts education to confront social barriers and build community with students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Circus Up is recognized as a Social Circus Program by both Cirque du Soleil’s outreach program, Cirque du Monde, and by the American Youth Circus Organization (AYCO). We are thrilled to be joining forces with Circus Up founders Leah Abel, a licensed social worker and circus professional, and Kate Mills, an activist and trained social circus instructor, to create a enduring social circus program in Boston.

Circus Up has provided high quality, safe, and fun circus instruction in Somerville Public Schools, the Brookline Teen Center, the Clarke School for Hearing and Speech, and beyond. We are excited to offer Circus Up a home at our studio and will be collaborating on projects such as after school classes, reduced cost circus classes, and community events.
