Youth Instructor for youth ages 1.5-5

Commonwealth Circus Center is currently hiring a youth circus instructor who specializes in teaching children ages 1.5-5. We are seeking an instructor who is experienced, enthusiastic, and community-minded, and able to work morning classes on both weekdays and weekends.

Job Description:

This youth instructor will teach circus classes for kids and their parents in three age groups: 1.5-2.5 years, 2.5-4 years, and 4-5 years. The younger two age groups involve parents in the class, and the third allows children to start working on classroom skills with parents waiting in the lobby.

The coach is expected to lead students and family members in songs, games, stretches, and circus-related activities that include tossing or rolling balls, hula hoops, walking across a beam or wire, tumbling fundamentals, and basic movements on aerial silks and low-hanging lyras or trapezes. A general curriculum outline and teacher training will be provided by C3, with room for improvisation and the addition of your own style and favorite games.

Strong candidates do not need to have a background in circus arts; we are looking for someone with charisma, positive energy, and experience teaching movement and classroom skills to young children. Training and continuing education on circus-specific activities will be provided.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for an instructor to teach 3-6 classes per week (between 3-7 hours total) with consistent long-term availability.

We are looking for candidates with previous toddler/preschool-age teaching experience. Childcare workers, gymnastics, youth theater, and dance instructors are encouraged to apply. Experience and qualification to teach in our older youth or adult program is a plus. C3 is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity in the workplace.

Classes are 50 minutes long, with time before and after class for setup and breakdown of equipment. The coach will be trained on how to set up each piece of equipment safely, and is expected to arrive 15 minutes early to have enough time for setup.

Commonwealth Circus Center Staff Benefits:

  • C3 offers competitive pay.
  • C3 offers instructors free training time in our 5,000 sq ft circus facility.
  • Space to schedule and teach private lessons in disciplines and age groups you are specifically qualified to teach.
