Aerial Dance

Looking for a way to explore creative movement in the air? Ground dancers, aerialists, and anyone excited about moving in new ways is invited to come explore solo dance and ensemble-based dance in the air. Come dance with us in the air!

Aerial Dance Rotating Special Topics:

Sequences on Single Point Trapeze:
Ages 16+

In this Aerial Dance class, students will learn short sequences on the single point trapeze while focusing on movement quality, savvy transitions, and musicality. A single point trapeze is a steel bar hung from two ropes and attached to one rig point on the ceiling. It is a foundational aerial apparatus that can spin, circle and swing! Like the static trapeze, this apparatus invites students to move over, under, and around the ropes and bar to perform movements and tricks in sequence. Ground dancers, aerialists, and anyone excited about moving in new ways is invited to come explore solo dance and ensemble-based dance on the single point trapeze. Push your comfort zone to tap into your inner performer!

Pre-requisites for Single Point Trapeze: One session of aerial classes completed previously and comfort inverting on the ground and/or in the air. Dance experience a plus! Must be willing to explore and experiment. Experience with spinning is encouraged but not necessary.

Aerial Dance: Scaffolding
Ages 16+.

In this Aerial Dance class, students will explore techniques for choreography and performance on our scaffolding! Students will both invent their own movements and apply existing trapeze and hoop vocabulary to this new apparatus. Students will work together to create a group piece by the end of the session. Aerial Dance: Scaffolding curriculum will be focused on methods for improvisation, movement quality, and composition. Ground dancers, aerialists, and anyone excited about moving in new ways you are invited to come climb around on our scaffolding to push your comfort zone to tap into your inner performer!
